1st game of season ends in narrow defeat

Thanks to our anonymous touch line reporter for providing today's match report...

The U18's started their season with an away match against Penn & Tylers Green FC. After the Indian Summer we have recently experienced, Autumn suddenly took hold as the game kicked off in heavy rain.

Aylesbury started the stronger and started to create a number of chances with their fluid passing game. Unfortunately due to good goalkeeping and perhaps a little rustiness, our girls could not break the deadlock.
Just before half time and totally against the run of play, the opposition forced a corner. We struggled to clear the ball and after a brief melee, the ball looped into the goal off an Aylesbury head.

The second half proved to be a more evenly fought encounter as players from both sides began to tire. Aylesbury's defence was put under a little more pressure as Penn sought to double their lead, while we were limited to long range shots on goal which Penn's keeper was able to deal with comfortably. This left the final score as 1:0 to Penn & Tylers Green.

All the girls put in 100% effort and their performance deserved to salvage at least a point. It was great to see Jess Potts return to the team and she made a real impact on the right side of midfield. Thanks also to Casey Toovey from our Ladies team, who stepped in to help our defence with several of our regulars being unavailable.
Lauren Barnett was named by the opposition as our player of the match.
