Through to the next round of the league cup

Aylesbury United Ladies progressed to the second round of the league cup today following a good performance against Stanford Ladies.

The game started well for Stanford as they began with energy and commitment but Aylesbury stood firm and they gradually grew into the game.
On the 16th minute Aylesbury won a corner and Sara Madden-Connor squeezed it in at the near post without anyone touching it to make it 1-0. The rest of the half was fairly even although with the greater number of chances going to Aylesbury and they doubled their lead on the 44th minute. Megan Baillet picked the ball up on the left hand side and passed straight across the 6 yard area where it was picked up on the other side by Jo Cox. She took her time before finding Diana Vega to slot it past the keeper and make it 2-0 at half time.

Aylesbury United started the 2nd half quickly and had doubled their lead within three minutes. Megan ran through the defence and shot past the keeper for the third goal and Diana, who was player-of-the-match, shot from an acute angle to beat the keeper for her second goal and the team's fourth.
With just over ten minutes to go the Stanford keeper saved a shot from Keri Clarke but the rebound was knocked in by Chloe Bassnett to make it 5-0.

It was a good performance from Aylesbury who look forward to the next round with confidence.
