Is this the start of a cup run?

Following a confidence boosting league win last week Aylesbury United Ladies went into this week's cup fixture against Summertown Stars hoping for another victory. Their energy, confidence and quality certainly showed as they came out of the blocks to make a blistering start. Within ten minutes they were three goals ahead. The first came from a great ball forward by Alice Hall which was taken on by Gemma Warner who lobbed the keeper from outside the box. The second followed another through ball, this time picked up by Anna Lane, who shot past the keeper and the third from Sarah Jackson who collected a ball from Amber Chalmers and shot past the keeper. Having taken a 3-0 lead Aylesbury took their foot of the peddle a little and allowed Summertown to get a goal back, however, on the 23rd minute the three goal lead was restored following a lovely 1-2 just outside the box which led to Sarah Jackson's second goal.

The second half was far less open and goal scoring chances were few and far between with good defensive work from both teams. The only goal of the half came from player-of-the-match Gemma Warner who picked up the loose ball outside the box and sent a shot flying over the keepers' head. She had a couple of chances to complete her hat-trick but it was not to be. This was another good performance and result for Aylesbury United Ladies who now have a week off before resuming their league campaign against the same components as today.
