It's only pre-season!

Aylesbury United Ladies played their first pre-season game today against Holyport Ladies.

Aylesbury started well with a good chance when a ball was whipped in by Amber Chalmers towards Kayleigh Mott who had made an amazing run down the right hand side towards the back post. However, Holyport managed to block the ball before it reached its target. Aylesbury continued to work hard but luck was against them when a corner was conceded which resulted in Holyport taking the lead after just 4 minutes. Aylesbury pushed on and unluckily saw a shot hit the crossbar but it was Holyport who added to the score with further goals direct from corners, showing something for Aylesbury to work on, a bit of pace and a couple of defensive errors and they stretched out to a 6-0 lead after only 37 minutes. Aylesbury did not give up though and they got a deserved breakthrough as Kayleigh took the ball down the right, crossed the ball into Rachel Saunders who passed it into the path of Sarah Jackson who hammered it home like a rocket to make it 6-1 at half time.

The second half saw a much more controlled Aylesbury, with Casey Toovey and Sarah Gerrard both stopping Holyport in their tracks. Alice Hall then made a comfortable save from a 1 on 1 which could have seen Holyport net again. Aylesbury saw some great play whilst trying out players in different positions, with Angie Lunnon standing confident and intercepting play a number of times in the central midfield position. Holyport scored a couple more goals in the second half to make the final score 8-1 and give Aylesbury a bit to think about with just two weeks to go before the start of the season. However, when all the squad is available, and after a couple more weeks of training, they are confident they will be ready for a good season.
