On Sunday Aylesbury United Ladies maintained their fourth place in the league with a stunning fight back against an improved Stonesfiled Strikers team. Aylesbury started slowly and struggled to come to terms with the pitch which was partly grass and partly ploughed field. Within 15 minutes they were 2-0 down but they soon bounced back as Sarah Jackson played a ball into central midfield which was picked up by Tiana Phillips-Maynard who went on to exchange passes with Beanie Cameron before shooting past the keeper. Unfortunately Stonesfield restored their two goal lead just two minutes later but Aylesbury started to sort themselves out and were level by half time. After 28 minutes the ball bounced around the Stonesfield penalty area and after a couple of good saves by their keeper the ball was put into the net by Sarah Jackson. Just before half time a free kick from the half way line by Tiana was nudged sideways on the edge of the box by Sarah Jackson into the path of Jen Lambie who shot past the keeper.
The second half was much more one way traffic with Aylesbury coming to terms with the pitch and being aided by the slope and wind. Within eight minutes of the start of the second half Aylesbury had scored three more goals. Two lovely finishes by Leigh Reed, both from the edge of the box, made it 5-3 and then a lovely move increased the lead. Sarah Jackson and Tiana combined again down the left and Tiana crossed the ball into the middle with Clare Knowler finishing off the move. The score stayed the same until the last seven minutes of the match when a second by Tiana and a good finish by Sarah Maddon-Connor made the score 8-3 to the visitors.
Although not a classic Aylesbury United performance they did play some good football in the second half and took their chances for a great result which maintained their fourth place in the league.
