U16's blew away the cobwebs and shrugged off the pre-season loss to the U14's

A new season, no new players and picking up from where they left off, the U16’s blew away the cobwebs and shrugged off the pre-season loss to the U14’ with a strong display in a friendly against Wing Raiders.

The greens kicked off the first half playing downhill and after putting the early pressure on Wing were unfortunate not to be 3 or 4 goals ahead with a few missed chances early on. The girls took a little time to get used to the slope as passes went astray, but the Aylesbury attack kept the Wing defence busy. Midway through the half, Aylesbury were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Talia unleashed a free kick which had all the curl and dip of a “worldy”, but it was somehow saved by the keeper. Then with their signature move, Wing broke far too easily through the middle and scored a pretty unbeatable goal giving Demi no chance to stop it.

In the second half, with the girls up the hill, it was good to see old habits were forgotten about and Aylesbury came out the strongest from the break. Katie O, was a menace down the right hand side but despite being marshalled closely by the Wing left back she won her battle and fired a shot off only to be saved by the impressive Wing keeper. Sophie grabbed the equaliser with a great confident run from halfway after picking the ball up from a Talia pass, dancing her way through challenges and beating the keeper with a great shot. The next goal came shortly after from Talia who after receiving a pass from Katie O, fired a fierce shot over the Wing keeper.

A great result, well deserved and just what we needed before the start of the league. Thanks to John who stepped in for Mark and gave the girls just as much encouragement from the side lines that the girls probably thought at times it was Mark. Demi was nominated for a well-deserved oppositions player of the match.
