Just about everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, but the 8 girls available battled for the most unlikely point

This week's report has been written by captain for the day, Evie

On Saturday 14 September 2019 we had an away match against Wixam wanderers. We only had 8 team members Maisie, Rosalina, Milly, Natasha, Felicia, Paige, Grace and myself.
Paige had to go in goal for the first half as Abbey was unavailable this week. She was amazing. Sadly, Natasha had to come off but did come back on for a bit. At half time the score was 0-0 and it was an even playing field.
Milly offered to go in goal and did some fantastic saves. Unfortunately, Wixam players were physical and at this point we only had 7 players on the pitch and even though Maisie and Felicia were injured they stayed on because they didnt want to let the team down. Maisie took a turn in goal as she wasnt able to move about very well and didnt concede any goals.
In the second half Wixam were the more attacking team but we defended well. The last 10 minutes seemed to last forever but we kept battling trying not to go down a goal.
Well done to all the girls for not putting their heads down and never giving up. We all got well deserved Players of the Match with the final score ending 0-0.
=============================================
This was the best result ever from this team. We started 8v8 (with no recognised keeper) but Natasha was unable to continue so we played the vast majority of the match 8v7. This led to us having to curb our normal attacking game and dig in for a point. To keep out a team that scored 6 the previous week away to Luton (who won the league last season!) is an unbelievable achievement. Every single one of the girls battled, ran, covered for each other, put in vital tackles and/or made saves that meant we somehow kept the score at 0-0. This was pretty much an hour (plus injury time) of attack v defense with the defense somehow managing to not concede a goal.

I was lost for words at the end. I am not sure if the girls that played appreciated what they had achieved, to be honest I think they were all to shattered to think about anything afterwards!

We have set the bar now in terms of how we defend as a team. It is very high but achievable to do every week
