Some clinical finishing wins the day

Aylesbury United Ladies went into their third game of the season hoping for a win following two narrow, unlucky defeats. They went into the game with 3 players making their debut for the Ducks and this showed as it really took them time to get going. Their opponents, MK City Reserves, had the best of the early play and made a few chances but the Aylesbury defence held firm, including the team captain Beth Cameron who was playing her 200th game for the club. It was Aylesbury who opened the scoring after 26 minutes with a really good move although rather against the run of play. Sarah Jackson took a quick throw down the left side which was picked up by Amber Chalmers who dragged it past the last defender before shooting over the keeper. Aylesbury then played some good quality football and just before half time made it 2-0 with a great finish by player-of-the-match Sarah Jackson following good football by Beth and Amber.

The second half was a very close affair with some good football by both teams. Within the first ten minutes Aylesbury could have extended their lead if it was not for the MK goalkeeper but it was MK City who got the next goal to make it 2-1 in the 11th minute of the half with the strikers pace taking her away from the defence before lobbing the keeper. It was end to end for the rest of the game with Aylesbury extending their lead through another goal by Sarah Jackson, a shot with the outside of her right foot, before MK City made it 3-2 with eight minutes left. Aylesbury United hung on though to get their much deserved first win of the season and a real confidence boost.
