Having lost heavily to Buckingham Athletic, the league champions elect, twice already this season it was not a game that Aylesbury United Ladies were really looking forward to. However, the performance and result showed what strides forward they have made over the season. The team performance and work ethic clearly showed and although they lost 5-1, each and every player can hold their heads high. Buckingham took a two goal lead in the first half but Aylesbury kept working and got a goal back before half time. Sara Madden-Connor picked up the ball outside the opposition area, turned and shot on goal. The shot went through the keepers legs, but they all count, to make it 2-1 at half time. In very warm conditions and with only two substitutes Aylesbury did really well to keep going in the second half and produced a brilliant defensive performance. However, Buckingham did score a further three goals to make the final score 5-1.
It was a great team performance so there was no individual player of the match but special mention must go to Debs Hewes who was playing her 100th game for Aylesbury United ladies. Also, a special mention to Angie Lunnon, an Aylesbury player, who was running in the hottest ever London Marathon and completed it in a great time. Well done :-)
