Rainy days and derby days

With Aylesbury's manager, Mark, on holiday it was down to one of the senior players, Beth Cameron, to manage the team. Things didn’t quite go to plan, however, as two players unfortunately could not make the game at the last minute which meant that Beth had to play as well as trying to manage the team which is obviously not ideal.

Led by captain Sarah Gerrard, who was rightly voted player of the match by Haddenham and her team mates, Aylesbury started well against the Haddenham side and the game was evenly matched, however, it was Haddenham that took their opportunities well and scored the first goal of the game. Aylesbury worked hard, with Kayleigh Mott battling well on the right and Beanie Cameron on the left, but Haddenham managed to double their lead before the break.

Aylesbury raised their game in the second half and some great balls through to striker Feranmi Awosika who was making her debut for the home team. Despite some good play by Aylesbury and lots of hard work it was Haddenham that managed to take their chances and score two more goals to make it 4-0. To their credit the Aylesbury United team never let their heads drop and they dug deep and played some good football. With time slipping away Feranmi ran after a through ball, which the defender was trying to shield for the keeper, and managed to get in between the two of them and take the ball. She looked set to score her first goal in a green and white shirt when she was taken down in the box. Amber Chalmers calmly stepped up to the spot to score a great penalty and Aylesbury’s first goal. Aylesbury stepped it up a gear once again with Deb Hewes playing the ball to Feranmi’s feet who ran with the ball from the halfway line to score her first goal for Aylesbury to make the final score 2-4. A great team performance and the ladies showed true team spirit to close the gap and didn’t give up.

Thanks to Mike and Alan for each running the line. Also a massive thanks to Beth who did a brilliant job at playing and managing.
