A sin we didn't win !

Aylesbury played Holyport today in the League Cup and with less than 60 seconds on the clock Aylesbury United were 1 nil down. What seemed to be a fair challenge by Aylesbury , the referee saw differently awarded Holyport a penalty.
Aylesbury picked themselves up and started playing some lovely football in changeable weather conditions. Player of the match Gemma Warner made some fantastic saves in the Aylesbury goal. A lovely ball through from Amber Chalmers saw Sarah Jackson, fly down the left wing before before firing a bullet of a shot which came off the cross bar into the back of the net.
at one all Aylesbury continued to play their football while the Holyport players started to lose their heads. Just before half time Holyport put a long ball through and managed to score, which meant we went in at half time 1-2. The second half started off with more end to end action, and after another long ball through Holyport scored anther goal, although it did not cheer them up and they continued to bicker and argue every decision. Aylesbury did not allow this bad sportsmanship to get to them and once again Sarah Jackson was put through and beat the Holyport defence with her speed, and beautifully passed the ball into the back of the net, making the score 2-3.
The end to end action continued and a few minutes later Holyport scored from a corner. Aylesbury came back and after another strong run from Sarah Jackson she slotted the ball past the on coming Holyport keeper. As Aylesbury pushed forward the Holyport players started to become more abusive towards the Aylesbury Players and the referee, causing the first yellow card to be shown, unfortunately the referee forgot about the new sin bin rule and the player remained on the pitch. The play continued with chances at both ends, but another 2 players from Holyport were shown yellow cards, again the sin bin was not used and although they should have been down to 8 players, all 11 remained on the pitch.
With 5 minutes to go, Sarah Hayden took a corner which found substitute Keri "sambuca" Clarke at the front post, who managed to get it over the line to make it 4 all. With the prospect of penalties, Aylesbury tried to hold onto the draw, but unfortunately a player who should have been in the sin bin, jumped on a loose ball in the Aylesbury area to give them the win.
On this occasion the best team did not win, which even the Holyport manager agreed with when he shook hands with the Aylesbury manager. The referee also praised the Aylesbury ladies for their attitude and abiding by the FA Code of Conduct. Aylesbury United LAdies should all be proud of their performance today.

Next week we return to league action v Carterton.
