Fabulous 8 - 1 win for Aylesbury U16 girls

From the opening whistle, the midfield press and hustle of Aylesbury nearly paid off when Talia had her effort from the edge of the box saved by the Thame keeper. and that really set the tone as Aylesbury dominated the midfield and were able to slice open Thame again and again. The opening goal was the product of great link up play between the front two, as Iona collected the ball from a pass from Maddie to set up Katie O to score the first of her four of the game. Aylesbury's second goal came from a beautiful through ball from Sophie H, for Katie O to slot home past the keeper. Then again, great inter-play between the forwards as Katie O collecting the ball from midfield ran at pace through the defence to square a ball for Iona to side foot into the net, 3-0 to the hosts. Katie O then scored her hat-trick when Iona headed the ball forward for Katie O to race on to the ball and fire past the keeper. Then Iona got her second of the game as she collected a ball from Talia to get Aylesbury's fifth, before Talia scored a wonder goal just before half time to make it 6-0.

The defence of course had their moments, with Keira, Elle and Maddie being really effective at closing the few attacks that Thame had, but it was a game where the midfield played as a solid unit and controlled the game. The second half saw Talia break through from midfield, take on the keeper, round the keeper and calmly slot home for her second of the game. Aylesbury's seventh goal came from a corner whipped in by Talia and when it had cleared everyone's head, Katie O popped up at the far post to slot it home. At this point, it looked as if Demi would hold on to that clean sheet with a great diving stop to collect the ball from the attackers feet and a dis-allowed goal for a ball being played behind the goal line, but unfortunately Thame did pull one back and got a consolation goal from an unchallenged solo run from midfield.

All in all, a great game with so many of the girls stepping up and winning their battles. Sophie H had renewed confidence in the centre and pulled all the strings, Katie O showing her pace to leave the defence at times standing still, Iona back to her poaching best, Kiera, Heather, Maddie and Elle solid, Khadijah showing much potential, Sophie S giving it everything and player of the match Talia showing her combative skills winning the ball and ensuring our midfield stayed strong.
